Some of you have already met Racquel (pronounced Rachel) who joined our team last month and is helping out at the front desk so that Mary can have an early mark one day a week and take holidays every now and then! Racquel is a second year physio student at Charles Sturt University and after we put her through a tough application and interview process, we softened a bit to find out what she likes doing outside of work:
What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy playing basketball for the Myrtleford Saints CBL (Country Basketball League).
How did you get started with that?
I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old! My two older sisters played so I was pretty much born into the sport. I started playing basketball in Wodonga and grew up playing junior representative basketball, travelling the countryside of Victoria.
What do you like about it?
I enjoy basketball because it keeps me physically fit, but I also like the social aspect. I have made some life-long friends from basketball which makes it fun to be playing beside your friends each week. Over the last few years I have been involved with coaching the Myrtleford Junior U14 girls and U18 boys. I assisted in helping the Myrtleford CBL get up and running and have played with them for the last 3 years. I enjoy playing at Myrtleford because it is a community environment and the whole town supports the CBL, which makes the atmosphere amazing and fun!
What’s your funniest, scariest or most exciting moment?
Not related to basketball… I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so I love all things high and jumping off things. My craziest experience is the Nevis Bungy in Queenstown, which is the highest bungy in New Zealand at 134 metres. My next adventure is to Sky dive!
I look forward to meeting you all at the practice!
Racquel.
